Husband murdered in Kanchanpur: Wife and Indian lover allegedly conspired for insurance money

Dhangadhi: In a shocking revelation, a woman in Kanchanpur has been accused of murdering her husband in collaboration with her Indian lover, allegedly to claim life insurance money.

The victim, 49-year-old Siyaram Nara of Belauri Municipality-6, Bhurakot, was killed by his wife, Janak Kumari Rana, who reportedly struck him with a brick. Rana, a resident of Sampurna Nagar, Khiri district, India, carried out the murder based on a plan devised with her lover, identified as Farooq, an Indian national.

Rana’s body was discovered at their home on Mangsir 13, 2081 BS, wrapped in cloth and placed in a corner of the gallery rather than in the toilet as initially claimed by the accused. Police detained Janak Kumari the following day and arrested Farooq on Poush 28, 2081 BS. Investigators revealed that the motive behind the murder was to collect a Rs 28 lakh life insurance payout from Nepal Life Insurance, which had been taken in the victim's name.

Though Farooq was not present at the crime scene, police state that he orchestrated the murder. Janak Kumari confessed to killing her husband during interrogation, but claimed to have acted alone. Kanchanpur District Police Office spokesperson Umesh Raj Joshi confirmed that the murder was premeditated.

Police investigations uncovered evidence, including blood stains on household items and a bloodied brick hidden under the bed. Clothes soaked in blood were also found in a drawer. The wife admitted that an argument on the morning of the incident escalated, leading her to kill her husband by hitting him with the brick while he was asleep in the afternoon.

An extended remand of 10 days has been granted for further investigation into Farooq’s involvement in the case. Authorities have charged Janak Kumari with the murder, and further legal proceedings are underway.
