Sudurpaschim provincial assembly marks seven years, Enacts 68 laws
Dhangadhi: The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly celebrates its seventh anniversary today, marking the establishment of the assembly on Magh 7, 2074 BS.
The Provincial Assembly Secretariat in Dhangadhi is observing the day with a series of events, including a tea party, a formal program, and a lamp-lighting ceremony. Having completed its first term, the assembly has entered its second term with new members, a speaker, a deputy speaker, and parliamentary party leaders.
On Sunday, the assembly directed the public disclosure of the agenda for electing the parliamentary thematic committee, though the committee's formation remains pending due to disagreements among political parties.
Over the past seven years, the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly has passed 68 laws aimed at facilitating governance and service delivery. These laws have been certified by the provincial chief.
A significant milestone in the assembly's history was its resolution on September 12, 2018, to name the province Sudurpaschim and designate Godavari Municipality in Teghri as the capital. However, seven years on, the decision on the permanent capital remains unimplemented.
Progress on constructing infrastructure for the provincial capital has stalled due to the location being in a forest area. The federal government has yet to grant approval for tree felling and land use in the designated forest region, further delaying the implementation of the capital decision.
