Sudurpaschim University associate professor arrested for repeated domestic violence
Dhangadhi: Prithviraj Bhatta, an associate professor at Sudurpaschim University's central campus in Mahendranagar, has been arrested on charges of repeatedly assaulting his wife.
Police apprehended Bhatta, who also serves as the director of Morning Glory School, following a complaint filed by his family. The incident occurred at his residence in Gobaraiya, where he allegedly attacked his wife, Jayanti Bhatta, during a domestic dispute, leaving her injured. She received medical treatment in Dhangadhi for injuries, including a head wound.
The complaint alleges that Bhatta has a history of domestic violence. In Bhadra 2077, he reportedly assaulted his wife while she was pregnant. At that time, he was released after apologizing at the Ward Police Office in Kanchanpur. In 2079 BS, another incident of severe physical abuse led to her treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital, after which Bhatta again apologized with the consent of the family.
The pattern of repeated assaults prompted relatives to file a formal complaint. According to DSP Umesh Raj Joshi of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, a case of attempted murder has been registered against Bhatta, and the process of extending his remand is underway.
Police stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
