Kathmandu: Naren Saund of Sudurpaschim Royals has made history as the first Nepali player to claim five wickets in the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

The 18-year-old, who recently returned from representing Nepal in the U-19 Asia Cup, delivered an extraordinary performance against Kathmandu Gurkhaz on Thursday. Saund, a left-arm orthodox spinner, took five wickets for just 19 runs in 3.5 overs, leading Sudurpaschim to a commanding 72-run victory.

Making his debut in the NPL, Saund’s remarkable bowling earned him the Player of the Match award. His achievement follows the previous record held by Sohail Tanveer of Chitwan Gurkhaz, a foreign player. The 39-year-old Pakistani pace bowler had taken five wickets for 21 runs in four overs against the same team, Kathmandu Gurkhaz.

Saund's exceptional performance marks a milestone in Nepal's cricket history, showcasing the growing potential of young domestic players in the national league.
